CazUUm 2021: National Youth Conference

CazUUm 2021: May 14 – 16, 2021

CazUUm is the online counterpart to CanUUdle, the beloved annual national conference for Unitarian Universalist youth (ages 14-19) and their adult advisors. This year’s theme is Finding TreasUUre! Inspired by pirates and others who find treasure in unlikely places, together we will uncover the precious gems that are hiding in these difficult times. Zoom will allow us to gather virtually to experience many of our favourite things about this community. Activities will include youth-led worship, connecting in small groups, imagining the future of Canadian UU youth organizing, and of course, plenty of fun and games! There will also be opportunities for multigenerational connection with junior youth, young adults and others during the traditional Bridging Ceremony and Sunday morning worship.

The week before con, registered participants will receive a pre-packet by email with more details about the event, including Zoom links and passwords.

  • When? May 14 – 16, 2021, between 12 – 8 pm ET each day
  • Where? Zoom online video conferencing, from anywhere with an internet connection! Registered attendees will be sent access links the week before the event.
  • Who? UU youth (14-19) and their adult advisors (25+)
  • Cost: Sliding scale, $5 – $50

Visit the CUC Nation Conference website for more information on CazUUm.

A volunteer staff team of youth and adults is hard at work planning the best CazUUm yet! They are:

Co-Deans: Eric James and Molly Syms-Wilson
Worship Coordinators: Taz Trefzger and Violet Slevin
Activities Coordinators: Petra Versteeg and Linden Thomas
Social Media Coordinator / Community Captain: May Elspeth
Chalice Circle Coordinator: Valerie Dalley
Youth Chaplain: Addison Braden
Adult Chaplain: TBA
Advisor’s Advisor: TBA
Advisors’ Advisor: TBA
CanUUdle Coordinator: Carter Mahoney

There will be opportunities for others to contribute to the con in small yet important ways, such as facilitating small groups (Chalice Circles, formerly known as Touch Groups) and leading short energy breaks with a stretch, a song, or something silly! Look for the sign-ups on your registration form.

Advisors: CazUUm is for youth advisors, too! Learn more about what’s involved with being a youth advisor at this virtual con on the Adult Advisors pageAdult Advisors need to have a Congregational Involvement Form submitted on their behalf by a church staff or board member.

Note: Youth under 18 no longer need to provide an Informed Consent Form, as these permissions are now included within the registration form.

This registration form includes a new Photo/Video Consent section, according to our updated Photo and Video Safety Policy for Minors. Parents and guardians are now asked to either approve or refuse consent for photos and videos to be taken and shared of any youth in their care (under 18) at this event. Those 18 and over will be asked to indicate their preference regarding having photos and videos taken of themselves. If you have any questions about this new policy, please contact casey@cuc.ca.

Youth/Advisor Matches: This event will use the same youth:adult ratio (8:1) that the CUC uses for in-person events, as per our Youth Safety Policies. All youth (regardless of age) are required to have a sponsoring advisor attend the event along with them. If you aren’t sure exactly which youth you will be sponsoring, or if you are registering a youth without a confirmed advisor, simply note this on the registration form and CUC staff will be in touch before the event to help match you with someone, if needed.
