The federal New Horizons for Seniors Program is open. The CUC is here to help you explore, develop, and submit a strong application.
The Opportunity
The New Horizons for Seniors Program offers up to $50,000 to support community-based projects designed by and for seniors. If your congregation has been wondering how to deepen connection with older members, launch a new initiative, or respond to a need you’re seeing — this could be the funding catalyst. More information.
Projects might include:
- Reducing isolation through intentional gathering or mentoring
- Creating intergenerational programs that connect wisdom and energy
- Volunteer opportunities that put seniors’ skills and gifts to work
- Raising awareness about elder abuse and building protective community
- Strengthening existing programs or spaces that serve seniors
The Reality
You don’t need a fully formed idea. You don’t need to be a grant-writing expert. You need:
- A genuine commitment to working with seniors in your congregation or community
- Willingness to think creatively about what could make a difference
- A deadline: applications are due to the Government of Canada by Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. ET
What We’re Offering
Michael Jodah, CUC Executive Director, is hosting a one-hour online support session to help congregations and UU-affiliated groups:
- Understand what the grant actually funds (and what it doesn’t)
- Explore possible project ideas grounded in your congregation’s reality
- Learn what support the CUC can provide as you develop and submit your application
After the session, the CUC will be available for:
- Follow-up conversations to workshop your specific idea
- Feedback on draft applications before you submit
- Connection with other congregations exploring similar projects
Who Should Join?
Anyone in your congregation who:
- Cares about seniors in your community
- Has been thinking “we should be doing something” but didn’t know how to start
- Wants to explore whether this grant could fund an idea you’ve been holding
- Is curious about what’s possible
Ministers, program leaders, board members, volunteers, congregation members — all welcome.
