Find a Congregation
Unitarianism honours the individual search for truth and meaning, so it isn’t surprising that individual congregations have unique identities. Some are served by one or more ordained ministers, highly trained professionals who collaborate with the members of their congregations to set goals, plan programs, and serve their communities. Other congregations do not have a minister and are led by their members. In addition to ministers, many congregations have other professional staff, such as religious educators and music directors, while some have none.
However they are organized and led, most congregations hold regular Sunday services that include shared singing and a central message, sermon, or reflection. Even within a single congregation, however, there is often considerable variety from week to week. We encourage you to visit a few times, to get to know the community. There’s no need to dress up unless you want to; our services are relaxed, and we’d love to meet you.
The Canadian Unitarian Council includes forty-one member congregations and emerging groups, from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Vancouver Island, British Columbia. They are divided into four regions: British Columbia, Western, Central, and Eastern. Our oldest congregation was founded in 1842, and the newest ones are forming now. Learn more about our history.
