Brigitte Twomey – Web Specialist
Brigitte discovered Unitarian Universalism in 1992 and soon found a spiritual home at the Unitarian Congregation in Mississauga. Since then, she has been a dedicated and active member, contributing her time and talents to many areas of congregational life—including the Board of Directors, Finance, Religious Exploration, OWL (Our Whole Lives), youth mentoring, and communications.
Married to Bert, who hails from Ireland, Brigitte is the proud mother of two adult children and a joyful grandmother of two. She is a seasonal camper at Unicamp, an enthusiastic hiker, and a keen forager—often spotted along the Bruce Trail.
Brigitte’s early life was shaped by her unique multicultural background. Raised in France in a family with both secular French and Spanish Catholic roots, she was introduced early to the realities of refugee resettlement: her mother and extended family fled Spain and lived in refugee camps before being resettled. These formative experiences instilled in Brigitte a deep belief in the importance of cultural awareness, sensitivity, and adaptability to foster stronger communication and more meaningful relationships.
Brigitte later moved to Canada, where she continued to build on her multicultural roots and commitment to community by engaging in projects that support inclusion, integration, and cross-cultural understanding.
Professionally, Brigitte has been self-employed for over 20 years, contributing to a wide range of projects. She works as a Web Specialist and French Translator, bringing strong skills in research, problem-solving, and creative thinking—all of which make her a natural fit for her role with the Canadian Unitarian Council (CUC).
Brigitte is delighted to serve as the CUC’s Web Specialist, combining her passion for web development with her deep commitment to the Unitarian Universalist community. Her responsibilities include:
- Maintaining and managing the CUC website
- Designing and coordinating registration forms for events
- Updating events and informational pages
- Laying out the eNews
- Designing and maintaining the CUC Store
Brigitte brings heart, skill, and a deep UU commitment to all she does in support of the CUC and its mission.
