Our Vision and Mission

CUC Vision Statement

heart-candlesAs Canadian Unitarian Universalists, we envision a world in which our interdependence calls us to love and justice.

As Canadian Unitarian Universalists:
Seven principles guide our choices,
Six sources nourish our spiritis,
Five aspirations help us grow.

As Canadian Unitarian Universalists, we aspire to be:

Deeply Connected: We strive to foster healthy relationships amongst and within UU communities, with the broader world and with all life.

Radically Inclusive: We strive to create hospitable, diverse, multi- generational communities.

Actively Engaged: We strive to work joyfully for a just and compassionate society, experimenting with new forms of community.

Theologically Alive: We seek to be ever-evolving in our understanding, open to new knowledge.

Spiritually Grounded: We seek transformation through personal spiritual experiences and shared ritual.

Our Mission:

The Canadian Unitarian Council is an organization of Unitarian and Unitarian Universalist member congregations and individual Unitarian Universalists acting to enhance, nurture and promote the Unitarian and Unitarian Universalist religion in Canada.

The CUC is a beacon for Unitarian Universalist communities across Canada, providing them with leadership, support and connection as they strive to foster a just and sustainable world and to enrich the spiritual lives of their members.

The CUC’s mission is Growing Vital Unitarian Communities in Canada.

Join our Vision Contests!

To celebrate our new Vision Statement, the CUC is launching two contests. We’re hoping lots of individuals and congregations will get involved.

1. Interconnected Faith Sermon Contest: UUs from across Canada are invited to write a sermon about our Vision Statement and/or the five Aspirations attached to it. Length: between 1,800 and 2,500 words. The sermon must be delivered to a Canadian UU congregation before the deadline. Deadline: Feb. 1, 2018.

The selected winner will receive a cash award of $150, plus an invitation to present their sermon during the CUC 2018 ACM held in Hamilton.

2. Canadian Unitarian Art Contest. UUs from across Canada are invited to create a work of art that celebrates our Vision Statement (not the Aspirations).
