The CUC regularly provides training opportunities for Lay Chaplains. The following is a list of the various programs that we offer.
Introduction to the Lay Chaplaincy Program
This workshop is on starting or revitalizing a Lay Chaplaincy Program at your congregation.
Lay Chaplaincy Basic Training – Planning and Designing Rites of Passage
This workshop is open to those who are considering Lay Chaplaincy, recently appointed Lay Chaplains and members of a congregation’s Lay Chaplaincy committee. It provides basic guidelines on the management of a congregation’s Lay Chaplaincy program and the training new Lay Chaplains need to begin their work.
The Challenge of Weddings
This training day will include creating and maintaining sacred space, safety issues, respect, appropriate use of humor, handling mishaps with grace and dignity, claiming your authority and self-care.
This full or half day workshop is designed to help Lay chaplains improve their public speaking skills and enhance self-confidence in leading more meaningful rites of passage ceremonies.
Communicating from the Heart
This full day workshop aims to assist Lay Chaplain’s ability to know how to communicate effectively, with compassion and a grounded honesty, no matter what the situation.
Outreach for Lay Chaplains
Why do we need to broadcast the services of Unitarian Lay Chaplains and reach out to the wider community? Come and find out how to improve websites, advertising tools, and outreach methods. For current / prospective lay chaplains and lay chaplain committees.
Recognizing Thresholds and Honouring Transitions
This workshop aims to assist Lay chaplains identify occasions worthy of ceremony and to help your congregants or people in the broader community in their growth. You will learn more about the process of ritual and symbolism and how to design meaningful rituals.
The Challenge of Memorials
This weekend workshop is especially designed for the experienced lay chaplain to deepen their understanding and skills as well as their own spiritual development.
Deepening, Maturing and Growing: A Training Retreat for Lay Chaplains
This retreat is designed to assist our lay chaplains, to deepen your self-awareness, mature in role and identity and to grow spiritually on the job.
A Queer Perspective on Ritual
This workshop is a six hour interactive, entertaining workshop to explore the queer experience related to spiritual rituals, and learn more about the new “Coming Out Ceremony” to be offered by Unitarian Universalist Ministers and Lay Chaplains in Canada.
