Self-directed tour options
If you have your own vehicle, you may want to
visit the Fort and/or the Terry Fox Monument yourself or drive out to Kakebeka
Falls, 40 km. west of Thunder Bay. Known as the Niagara of the North, the Falls
plunges 40 metres over sheer cliffs and some of the oldest fossils in the world.
In May, it should be in full flood.
Lake Superior Visits offers guided tours. One
suggestion is a visit to the Terry Fox monument high on a bluff on Hwy. 11/17
overlooking Lake Superior, then a drive around scenic Boulevard Lake and a stop
at Hillcrest Park overlooking the city and the Sleeping Giant. Cost will be
determined by numbers signing up by May 1 -- $30 if 10 sign up but $15 if 20
sign up. Time- around 2 1/2 hours.
In May, Daylight ends around 10 pm in Thunder
Bay. You may wish to walk some of the nature trails near your Lakehead
University residence.
Pamphlets about Thunder Bay attractions will be available at the Registration
Desk.
