Letter from David Belrose, President of Lakehead
Unitarian Fellowship
On behalf
of the board, members, and friends of Lakehead Unitarian
Fellowship (LUF), I want to invite everyone to Thunder Bay for
the Canadian Unitarian Council Annual Conference and Meeting in
May of 2009.
The 100+ members of LUF are a diverse group
exploring spirituality on a wide variety of different paths,
always within the home of an inclusive and accepting community.
One of the earliest Welcoming Congregations in Canada, LUF has
supported a wide range of social justice issues over its
history.
Our 50th Anniversary sees us in a time of
transition. Having adopted the Way Forward strategic plan, we
have been working toward professional ministry and new space
that will allow us to more effectively carry out our ministry
while honouring our past and living our UU values. Come to
Thunder Bay and celebrate with us in 2009.
Thunder Bay,
located at the geographical centre of Canada in the midst of the
Cambrian shield and on top of Lake Superior, offers a great
array of incentives for visitors. With a population of some
110,000, Thunder Bay serves as the metropolitan hub of
Northwestern Ontario.
Some attractive features of the
Thunder Bay area are the Sleeping Giant, Terry Fox Monument,
Fort William Historical Park, Community Auditorium, Kakabeka
Falls, Mount McKay and Ouimet and Eagle Canyons. Located in a
beautiful part of the country with pristine wilderness of
forests and lakes just outside the city, Thunder Bay offers
great opportunity for family adventure and exploration. |
We look forward to seeing you in
Thunder Bay
THUNDER
BAY WISHES TO BE SEEN IN BLAZING GREEN.
Lakehead Unitarian Fellowship is committed to
incorporating environmental and ethical aspects into decision making and
activities it undertakes. The upcoming ACM will see LUF take a leading
role in encouraging environmental awareness and ethical purchases in
regards to the food and drink that is offered for participants. We will
strive to source local food and serve ethically grown coffee and tea
while ensuring that single use items (disposable plates, cups) will be
kept to the lowest minimum possible. Bus schedules will be included in
your participant package to encourage you to use public transportation
while in Thunder Bay.
We would like to request that participants bring
with them a reusable travel mug for drinks, a reusable water bottle as
pitchers of water will be on hand and a towel for personal use . We
would also like to offer participants the chance to offset the
environmental cost of their travel through a Plant-A-Tree program.
Interested individuals please make a note on their submission forms that
they would like to be involved in this initiative.
We look
forward to discussing other "Green-Themed" activities that have been
successful in your congregations.
