Social Responsibility Liaison
Leslie joined the Unitarian Church of Vancouver in 1999. Attracted by UCV’s reputation for social justice activism, Leslie joined the Social Justice Committee and soon found herself as Committee Co-Chair. In 2003, she received the YMCA Peace Award in recognition of her contributions as Chair of the Church’s Social Justice Committee and its work in education and social action on a variety of issues. Leslie joined the Board of Trustees in 2002 and served as Board President from 2004-2006. Her other UCV activities have included: Chair, Human Resources Committee (2002-03), Member, Vision/Mission Task Force (2004-05), Member, Future Development Plans Committee (2008-present), Safe Congregations Task Force (2008-present), Chair, Food Bank Advisory Committee (2009-present).
Leslie has participated in CUC Social Responsibility processes including as Chair of CUC’s Monitoring Group on Alternatives to Drug Prohibition. A CUUL School graduate, she’s participated at the 2007 and 2008 CUUL Schools as a facilitator. She has also served the CUC as a services consultant.
Her paid work involves coordinating Community Development and Sustainability Programs for Langara College Continuing Studies. Active in the broader community, Leslie recently served 3 years as President of the Community Arts Council of Vancouver. Leslie is a founding member of Village Vancouver, a member of Cedar Cottage Community Garden and is committed to growing food and living sustainably.
